I am in love with galleries, I can spend hours, losing myself in them. For me, a gallery is not only a space for showcase but a space for interaction. It is a way of exploring and understanding life, love, and myself. A well-established gallery is like sipping a good wine, red, white or sometimes rose. Flavours may change, but taste of it lingers.
Back in 2019, I saw a beautiful gallery in Mayfair. I checked their social media accounts, subscribed into their email list to hear about the exhibitions. In the following days, luckily, I had an email telling that they had a private view of Peter Gronquist’s works. I booked my ticket and had the chance to visit the gallery. It was stunning!

About Unit London
Unit London is a gallery in Mayfair, Hanover Square opened in 2013 by Joe Kennedy and Jonny Burt. They state their motivation is to overcome the barriers of elitism and to facilitate a stronger discourse between artists and audiences around the world.
That month, they had the debut exhibition of an American artist, Peter Gronquist.
About Peter Grounquist
Peter Gronquist is a multidisciplinary artist born in 1979 in the USA, Oregon. He studied Fine Arts at San Francisco Art Institute in 2001. His works range from painting, sculpture to installation and are displayed at The Pittsfield Museum of Art, Scope New York and Miami, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco, and Winston Wachter in Seattle.
Light and Colour
After the death of his daughter, artist focused on exploring emotions through the use of colour by creating a mesmerizing intensity of feeling. His recent works reflects his approach to light and colour which appears to glow without being lit.

“Infinity only exist in abstract.”

The artist’s “Mirror” works reflects upon his ideas on the notion of captivity and infinity. Gronquist achieves the sense of infinity by using glass and light. As the light gets through the glass, images inside are seen as fading backwards into an endless continuity which makes the viewer question life and death, and which is more important.
“The works of man, followed by the elements, and with them the universe, will eventually die.”

Gronquist believes that man-made items are weak; and, proves this idea by exposing fire to some items. His approach is on the temporary nature of life. The artist states that “The works of man, followed by the elements, and with them the universe, will eventually die.”
I was quite impressed by the artist’s ideas on mortality and how he achieved reflecting his perception by using light, colour, heat.
Unit London is an extraordinary gallery with an innovative mindset.
I should highlight that Unit London is a gallery with an innovative mindset. Its founders are very passionate and dedicated. I feel like the gallery is like the embodiment of their motivations in life: curiosity, daringness, depth in meaning, and hard-work. The gallery is like their way of doing art.
